Are you a coffee or a tea person? I like drinking coffee from time to time, but I love drinking tea! There are so many varieties to enjoy with a large range of benefits. If you are looking for an energy boost — give matcha a try.
Matcha has been consumed for centuries in Japan. It is made from green tea leaves that have been grown in the shade and finely ground into a bright green powder. Drinking matcha vs. green tea provides additional nutrients and higher levels of energy boosting caffeine. Matcha also contains the amino acid L-theanine which has been shown to promote relaxation and stimulate brain function. The unique combination of benefits is thought to increase energy and focus without leaving you feeling jittery. This is why matcha became the pre-battle drink for samurai warriors in the 13th century.
I often drink matcha in the morning or afternoon. I like mixing matcha powder with nut milk and pouring over ice. For a fun summer drink, try adding fresh melon to the mix! Watermelon, cantaloupe, whatever melon you have on hand. It makes a great refreshing and hydrating drink!
