A closer look at what’s inside:
Pineapple
I have been eating lots of pineapple lately! I love adding it to green smoothies and drinks to add vitamin C and flavor. Pineapple also contains bromelain, which has been used to help reduce nasal swelling, inflammation, and more.
Turmeric
Have you tried golden milk? It is a superfood latte made with turmeric. You likely know that turmeric offers a wealth of health benefits. Asian cultures have used this spice medicinally for centuries to treat various ailments. It is thought to be antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-parasitic. Turmeric is often used to treat inflammation and is also thought to benefit the brain, lower your risk of heart disease, and possibly even prevent/treat cancer.
Black Pepper
Add a pinch of black pepper whenever you use turmeric to increase absorption in the body. This is because the piperine in black pepper has been shown to increase the bioavailability of curcumin (the main active ingredient in turmeric) by 2,000%.
Strawberries
It’s strawberry season and these delicious berries pair perfectly with pitaya! Strawberries are high in vitamin C, fiber, and water. In general, berries are a low sugar fruit and make a good option for blending into smoothies and other recipes.
Pitaya Powder
I use pitaya powder (AKA dragon fruit) often for its vibrant pink color. It is also high in antioxidants, promoting a healthy gut and strengthening the immune system.
Matcha
Matcha is made from green tea leaves that have been ground finely into a powder. This means it offers the same benefits as green tea, but is even more concentrated. Add matcha to your recipes for a light caffeine boost and antioxidants including EGCG, which are thought to have cancer-fighting abilities.
Maple Syrup
I used just a touch of maple syrup to sweeten my matcha layer since my milk was unsweetened. Feel free to sub for agave syrup or your favorite sweetener.
Dairy-Free Milk
Use whatever milk you would like to blend up this recipe. I used homemade cashew milk — made by soaking 1 cup of cashews in filtered water + sea salt + apple cider vinegar for 2+ hours, draining, rinsing, and blending with 3 cups of filtered water.
